Barton Community College vocal and instrumental music groups will perform their holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, in the college’s Fine Arts Auditorium for the taping of "Holiday on the Hill" by Smoky Hills Public Television.

The public is invited to this free concert. In fact, SHPTV and Barton music directors Vern Fryberger and Steven Lueth hope to have a full house for the taping. Set-up time between groups will be minimal and the taping should have the feel of a concert even though the main focus will be to record the performance, Lueth said.

The concert will feature Christmas music performed by Barton’s Concert Choir, Hilltop Singers, Barton Community Orchestra, Prairie Winds Community Concert Band, Prairie Winds Jazz Band and BCC Jazz Ensemble. Special selections will include a mass choir/band arrangement of "Still, Still, Still" and a mass choir/orchestra arrangement of "White Christmas." A musical arrangement of Clement C. Moore’s poem, "A Visit From Saint Nicholas" (The Night Before Christmas), will feature Justin Engleman as narrator.

SHPTV plans to air the concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 and 8:30 p.m. Dec. 25. The Barton Community College Foundation is one of the major sponsors for the production and broadcast.

This taping is part of an SHPTV long-term plan to broadcast Christmas specials featuring colleges in its viewing area.
