Barton Community College’s Performing Arts Departments have announced auditions for the college’s spring musical, "L’il Abner," based on the book by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank and the characters created by Al Capp.

The auditions are set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 and 29, in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

College students and community members are invited to audition. The cast calls for a large number of principal and secondary roles and a chorus. No appointment is necessary to participate in the auditions. However, each person auditioning needs to have 8-16 bars of a vocal selection prepared. An accompanist will be provided.

Performances are set for March 9, 10 and 11, 2012, in the college’s Fine Arts Auditorium. BCC Theater Director Erin Renard will direct the production. BCC’s Director of Choral Activities Vern Fryberger will act as the musical director. Director of Instrumental Activities Steven Lueth will conduct the orchestra, and BCC alumnus Becky Fryberger will be the choreographer.

Sponsors said "Li’l Abner" is a pointed satirical comedy. It is a satisfying mixture of hillbilly nonsense and sharp, critical humor that appeals to the sophisticated theatergoer as well as the child within us all.

For additional information about the musical or questions concerning the auditions contact the Fine Arts Office, 620-792-9391.
