Barton Community College’s theater department will host “Kansas Drama” at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in the Community Room in the Learning Resource Center. Barton theater students will perform “Settling the Kansas Territory” from the “Shared Stories of the Civil War” reader’s theater project.
It will be presented in conjunction with Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area and the Kansas Humanities Council. The presentation, created using excerpts from letters and diaries, will focus on the settlement of Kansas circa 1854. The area along the Missouri border attracted many settlers with political aspirations as well as others just looking for an opportunity to make their lives better. All the experiences of the settlers were unique, yet they all  suffered similar hardships as they tried to make a living on the western frontier.
Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to discuss what it took to move west to the frontier.
The presentation is sponsored by the Cohen Kansas History Center.  Admission is free. A reception will follow the presentation.
