Beier wins charity poker tournament

Thomas Beier of South Hutchinson took home $500 for his first-place win in the recent Sunflower Diversified Services Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament. June Garrett of Claflin won $300 for second place and Karen Watts of Hays earned $150 for third.

Winners in fourth through eighth places and their prizes were: Joseph Ramsey of Russell, $75; Cameron Gillespie of Lyons, $50; Evening Lanz of Little River, $40; David Tims of Larned, $30; and Vince Bruno of Great Bend, $25.

"As always, we appreciate all the poker players," said Connie Oetken, Sunflower director of development. "All proceeds go directly to support infants, toddlers and adults with disabilities and delays."

The next Sunflower poker tournament is set for Sunday, Jan. 15 at the Highland Hotel, 3017 10th in Great Bend.

"We hope our players mark this on their calendars and encourage their families and friends to attend," Oetken said. "We want to be able to help even more people with medical and dental care, communication devices and adaptive equipment."Sunflower’s service area is Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties.
