Bogus kidnapping reported

A 23-year-old male who reported being battered and kidnapped later told officials he made the whole thing up.
At 11:52 p.m. Monday, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the man, who said he was lying in a ditch and not sure where he was. He was found lying in front of his car in the 100 block of SW 110 Ave. and claimed someone wearing gloves and a mask had burnt him with a cigarette and forced him into his car. The assailant was armed and had left the area on foot, he said.
The man was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital. He told Great Bend Police than an unknown male had entered his house, threatened him with a shotgun and then drove him into a rural area where he was battered.
During his investigation he admitted everything he had reported was false and did not happen. He was served a notice of appear in municipal court for filing a false report
