Burglary in progress thwarted Monday morning

Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Great Bend man Monday after a burglary in progress was report at 9:18 in the 200 block of Bermuda Drive, just southwest of Great Bend. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said the resident at that location advised that a person was breaking in and officers were needed.
When deputies a few minutes later, the suspect ran from the back door of the residence into an open wheat field.
“A perimeter was set up and the suspect was quickly captured after a short pursuit,” Bellendir said. Dakota Gray, 20, was arrested and charged with burglary of a residence and criminal damage. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, which were reportedly found on him.
