First prize will be $1,500 if more than 250 poker players sign up for the next Sunflower Diversified Services Texas Hold ‘Em tournament. The event is set for Sunday, Sept. 18, in the Heritage Room at the Highland Hotel, 3017 10th, Great Bend.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and play begins at 1 p.m.

If 100 to 250 players participate the grand prize will be $1,000, and if the total is under 100, the winner will receive $750.

In any case, second place is $300 and third is $150. From fourth through eighth places will receive $75, $50, $40, $30 and $25, respectively.

Chair rental is $30, which includes a $5 bounty. There will be a deep stack of 15,000 chips to start and concessions will be available.

"We encourage those who have played in our tournaments in the past to sign up for this one," said Connie Oetken, Sunflower director of development. "And we hope they ask their families and friends to join in the fun; everyone is welcome.

"All proceeds will go directly to our neighbors with disabilities," she added. "The money we raise helps fill in the gaps that are not covered by insurance or tax dollars."

Sunflower serves babies, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. The non-profit agency is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.
