Driver arrested; passenger flees

Great Bend Police were looking for a known individual after he reportedly battered someone at Walmart, around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. At 11:11 p.m., the reporting party called again, saying the suspect was at a residence in the 3400 block of 18th St.

About 10 minutes later, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle in that block for an alleged traffic violation. The driver kept going until the next block, where her passenger, the suspect in the battery case, fled from the vehicle.

The driver, Alecia A. Niefert, of St. John, was arrested and booked on charges of flee and elude and driving without headlights. She was released after posting a $320 surety bond.

Nazarene Church to hold car wash

The First Church of the Nazarene’s children’s ministries will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the Great Bend Appliance and Furniture Store parking lot, 2301 10th St. Lunch of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will also be available.Money raised at this fundraiser will be used for children’s camps, quizzing and other projects and activities.
