An elderly female grizzly bear at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo was put to sleep last week, Zoo Director Scott Gregory said.

The bear named Maggie was euthanized Wednesday night. Gregory said she was nearing the end of her life expectancy and suffered from arthritis. "She was definitely a favorite with the public," said Gregory, who promised to provide more information soon.
