Note: This brief has been updated to correct the name Keith Miller. Property owners reported the hay from this building was still burning Friday afternoon.

ELLINWOOD — A hay shed that was three-quarters full was destroyed by fire Tuesday night after being hit by lightning, Ellinwood Fire Chief Chris Komarek said.
The fire at 363 NE 80 Ave. was discovered around 8 p.m.  Great Bend Fire Department assisted by sending a tanker, and Claflin and Hoisington fire departments also assisted, Komarek said. Firefighters were on-scene until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The building is owned by Keith Miller and was built on the same location where another hay shed burned down last year.
Barton County Sheriff’s Office reports lightning also struck a tree, causing it to catch on fire, Tuesday afternoon at NE Cleveland Road and NE 130 Ave., north of Claflin. And high winds snapped a power pole on NE 60 Ave. and NE 10 Road.
