Hay bales cause pile-up on K-96

Four vehicles were involved in an accident that occurred when a pickup lost its load of hay bales at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday on K-96, about 1.5 miles west of Yoder in Reno County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol online crash logs, Brady Scott Allen Mayfield, 20, of Cambridge was driving the Dodge pickup. The hay bales were struck by a Ford passenger car driven by Robert Matthew Evans, 22, Hutchinson; a Chevrolet passenger car driven by Jerry W. Steinman, 66, of Stafford; and a Dodge passenger car driven by Andrew Allen Welch, 20, of Mount Hope.

Passengers in the Ford who sustained possible injury include the driver Matthew Evans, and Audrey R. Evans, 23, of Stafford, who were taken to Promise Regional Hospital in Hutchinson. Two young Evans’ children were also taken to Promise although they were not injured, and two other passengers were not injured.

No other injuries were reported.
