Barton Community College history instructor Linda McCaffery will continue her Kansas history series this spring with a discussion of how railroads impacted the settling of western Kansas.  The class will meet from 1:30-3:30 p.m. every Tuesday, from Jan. 29 – April 9 in the Fine Arts Building, room F-30.
The class will focus on how the completion of the first two railroad lines, the Kansas Pacific and the Santa Fe, impacted the settling of western Kansas.  The class will also delve into the role Kansas played in the days of long cattle drives, booming cow towns and iconic cowboys and the rush by thousands of Americans and immigrants to purchase and claim land.
Cost of the course is $30 for Silver Cougar Club members and $87 for non-members. To reserve a spot in this class, contact Coleen Cape by calling 620-786-1136.
