Want to see something majestic this season? The Kansas Wetlands Education Center, in association with Fort Hays State University, will host free crane driving tours starting at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 and 29 in the Cheyenne Bottoms wetland.
The KWEC will give visitors the opportunity to witness the annual migration of not only the sandhill crane but also the endangered whooping crane, one of the most striking birds in North America.
“The sight and sound of tens of thousands of cranes coming into the marsh to roost overnight is an unforgettable experience,” says Curtis Wolf, site manager of the KWEC.
The tours are in conjunction with the Shafer Memorial Art Gallery’s Choreography of Cranes Art Show, running through Oct. 31.
