Library to hold Amnesty Day

Oct. 31 will be Amnesty Day at the Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams St. Anyone with overdue items may return them to the library and have their late fines waived, said Diane Bott, circulation supervisor.
Items must be returned inside the library at the Welcome Desk between the hours of 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Fines on any returned items will be removed. Damaged items as well as items left in the drop box outside are ineligible.
People who have been hoarding your overdue items from the library because they were too mortified to return them, or because they couldn’t pay the fines accrued, can bring them back without embarrassment or late fines. No questions asked.
“Every year libraries lose books,” Bott said. “Over time this begins to affect other members of the community. When someone comes into the library looking for a particular item, it can be quite disappointing when it is no longer available to them. This is why Amnesty Day is an important step in recovering our lost materials.”
Further details are available at the library or by calling 620-792-2409.
