RUSSELL — “The Art of Z,” featuring the work of Gordon and Rae Zahradnik of Wilson, is the next exhibit at the Deines Cultural Center. Shannon Trevethan, director of the center, announced the opening reception will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 16. The show will run until July 7.
Gordon Zahradnik, formerly from Lyons, taught for 42 years, both at Sterling College and at the Northeast Magnet High School in Wichita. He has been an artist for over 60 years. This exhibit will feature his work in watercolor and raku pottery.
“Discovering art is a life long journey and the journey continues,” he said. “Through art, whether it’s beautiful, inspiring or provocative, we find visual enrichments. We lay ourselves out for the entire world to see using paper, paint and clay because we create what we are. When we exhibit our work, others can explore and experience our beliefs, our reactions, our biases and our spiritual beings.”
Rae Zahradnik’s vivid watercolors are inspired by the juxtaposition of the natural beauty of flowers and geometric forms found in architecture.
The Deines Cultural Center is located at 820 N. Main Street in Russell and is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Admission is free.
