A semitrailer driver from Pawnee Rock was among four people who received possible injuries Monday morning in Rooks County, when another semi attempted to pass as he was making a left turn on U.S. 183, three miles north of Stockton. Both drivers and their passengers were taken to the Rooks County Health Center.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 8:12 a.m. Roy E. Guy III, 39, of Pawnee Rock, was northbound in a Peterbilt semi pulling a Doonan trailer.
Guy slowed to make a left turn at the same time a Freightliner pulling a Wabash trailer, driven by Misgina H. Meresa, 34, of Stone Mountain, Ga., attempted to pass on the left. The Freightliner hit the Peterbilt on the front driver’s side fender. Guy then steered into the east and Meresa steered his vehicle into the west ditch then over-corrected, causing the rig to overturn onto the driver’s side facing northeast.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Guy’s passenger was also wearing a seat belt and Meresa’s passenger was in the sleeper berth.
