The Barton County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a concealed carry firearms safety class starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the office, 1416 Kansas Ave. in Great Bend. This class is a prerequisite for application for a Kansas concealed carry handgun license.
The concealed carry class is not a tactical handgun course, but it includes instruction on ways to secure and conceal a handgun, safe methods of loading and unloading handguns and what to expect when a handgun is used in self-defense, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
This class follows the Kansas Attorney General’s office guidelines and approved lesson plan. The instructors at the BCSO are all law enforcement officers of various backgrounds. This will provide meaningful training and experience the students, Bellendir said.
Participants must furnish their own firearms and 50 rounds of ammunition. The class consists of two segments, classroom study and practical qualifications at the range.
Fee for the class is $50. To enroll, contact Denise Karst at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, 620-793-1876.
The Sheriff’s Office conducts this class as a public service, and fees that are collected are used to pay for class expenses, Bellendir said. “Any excess fees collected are deposited to the county general fund. We are pleased to be able to offer this class and serve the citizens of Barton County.”
