A Great Bend teen was injured Sunday afternoon in a one-car accident on K-96 at Albert (NW 130 Ave.). Skyler Zamarripa, 16, was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am that crossed the center line and struck a post at 1:45 p.m., Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
“It appears the driver then over-corrected, entering the south ditch,” Bellendir said. “The vehicle then struck several objects along the roadway, including a highway marker, stop sign and power pole. Zamarripa was trapped in the vehicle for a short period and was extracted by the Albert Fire Department, with Great Bend Fire Department assisting. Zamarripa was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital by Great Bend Fire Department Ambulance.”
Bellendir added that the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Passengers in the car were Tosha Perales, 34, and Hannah Perales, 13, both of Great Bend. They also sustained minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
