A Lyons man died Friday in a Rice County accident. Kansas Highway Patrol reports Boe E. Keesling, 32, left a disabled sport utility vehicle after hitting a deer, and was hit by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at 7:48 p.m. on 24th Road and Ave. Q, approximately 11 miles southeast of Lyons. Keesling was standing outside an Acura SUV that was disabled in the roadway. A car driven by Larry B. Collier, 33, Hutchinson, struck the SUV and Keesling. Collier was not injured, but his passenger, Gail F. Monroe, 33, was taken to the Lyons hospital with undetermined injuries, and two of the three children in the car, ages 2 and 9 years, were taken to the hospital with possible injuries. All were wearing safety restraints.
A passenger still in the SUV was not wearing her seat belt but was not injured.
