Barton County’s books are almost cleared of all delinquent property taxes. There are just two parcels that remain unpaid, the County Commission learned Monday morning.
Those two properties will be on the auction block today during the annual tax sale. It will take place at 10 a.m. in the conference room of the Barton County Courthouse with Sheriff Brian Bellendir conducting the sale.
One of the properties is an abandoned trailer house on Frey Street in Great Bend and the other is a vacant commercial property on Main Street in Hoisington. They can be viewed at www.bartoncounty.org.
In other business Monday morning, commissioners:
• Approved the reappointments of Mary Hoisington and Shawn Hutchinson to the Barton County Community Development Advisory Board. The BCCDAB advises the commission on economic and community development matters, monitors the progress of the Barton County Strategic Plan and makes suggestions to the commissioners concerning the advancement and realization of the plan goals.
With 11 members representing industry, education, government and other entities, County Administrator Richard Boeckman said this has been a very active committee, helping in part with the grant for the Cheyenne Bottoms scenic overlook on K-4 east of Hoisington.
The uncompensated terms expire on Aug. 1, 2017. There are two more openings that need to be filled.
• Approved the appointments of Heather Acheson with the Golden Belt Humane Society, Linda Michaelis with Great Bend Regional Hospital, Julie Bugner Smith with United Way of Central Kansas and Landfill Director Phil Hathcock to the Barton County Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Michaelis’ term expires in December 2016. The others end December 2015. All are uncompensated.
