WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Kansas to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of July 22 to August 16, 2013.
This includes Barton, Ellsworth, Hodgeman, Ness, Pawnee and Rice counties.
The president’s action makes federal funding available to commonwealth and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding. Other counties include Barber, Bourbon, Butler, Chase, Cherokee, Clark, Clay, Cloud, Coffey, Comanche, Cowley, Crawford, Dickinson, Edwards, Elk, Ford, Geary, Greenwood, Hamilton, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Kiowa, Lane, Linn, Lyon, Marion, McPherson, Meade, Montgomery, Morris, Ottawa, Pratt, Reno, Republic, Saline, Sumner, Washington, Wilson, and Woodson.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
Christian Van Alstyne has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Van Alstyne said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
