As of Saturday afternoon, a man considered armed and dangerous remains on the lam in rural Barton County or nearby vicinity following a high-speed chase in Rooks County Thursday night.
 The fugitive, Michael Aaron Jayne, a 30-year-old white male, 5’10”, 180 pounds, brown eyes, blonde hair, is wanted for probation violations. He has been convicted of assaulting and threatening law enforcement officers in his native Redding, Calif., and in Oregon.
At 10:30 a.m. Friday, the Barton County Sheriff’s Department dispatch informed officers to be on the lookout Jayne, a news release from the BCSO said. The report said he may be in Barton County, possibly north of Great Bend. A pickup stolen from Rooks County was recovered in Barton County in the Cheyenne Bottoms area at about 8 a.m. Friday morning.
The subject may be on foot. There was a report of someone fitting the description in the area, but no one was found.
He is wanted by federal authorities.
Agencies helping in the search included BCSO, Great Bend Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Fish and Game, Hoisington Police Department, and Claflin Police Department.
The KHP aircraft and K-9 units, along with BCSO and GBPD K-9 units also assisted.
After the search was concluded, officers fanned out for a 2 mile area around the bottoms to conduct welfare checks on houses and outbuildings. Flyers were distributed to area residences with photos of the individual.
A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped Jayne just south of Stockton at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for speeding and was given a name that turned out to be false. As the trooper started to approach the vehicle a second time, he sped away.
Jayne is then said to have driven into Stockton at a high rate of speed, turning west on U.S. Highway 24, he said. About three miles west of Stockton, the driver turned north on a county road, continuing north for about 12 miles before driving into a heavily wooded area.
He then fled on foot and has been on the run since.
 According to the BSCO release, in the past, Jayne is reported to have been willing to enter into high speed chases and cause accidents to avoid capture, as well as willing to invade homes. He has threatened to take lethal measures to avoid being taken back into custody.
Court documents filed in his home town of Redding, Calif., (in Shasta County) indicate Jayne has a history of violations. In August of 2001, he was charged with obstruction and resisting an executive officer.
In October of 2009 in Klamath County, Ore., Jayne was convicted of assault and felony possession of body armor. He attempted to run law enforcement officers over with a vehicle. He was wearing bullet-proof vest at the time, and that attracted the officers’ attention.
Then, in October 2010, he was again charged with obstruction and resisting an executive officer, as well as making criminal threats, assault and damage to property in Redding after he threatened a jailer at the Shasta County Jail.
