ELLINWOOD — High school students participating in the St. Joseph PSR will be having a breakfast/brunch fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 19 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. Cost is a free will offering with proceeds going towards the PSR mission trip and local charities.
In preparation for the Sunday Brunch, the kids will have a lock-in retreat on Saturday and Sunday. They will fast, be in prayer for the hungry and spiritually hungry, and for eucharistic adoration.
“We’re hoping some of us will hear direction about  discerning God’s will,” said Raechel Manley,  co-sponsor along with Sean O’Neill.
She said that today, it is rare for people to just be still with all of the technology available.
Quietness is “so soothing,” she said.
The students plan on using a portion of the funds for a trip next July to St. Paul, Minn. where they will participate in the Steubenville Conference. They will hear speakers, learn prayer habits, and perform missions, said  Manley. The Steubenville Conference will be a new activity for the group, and they hope to bring back that enthusiasm and service.  In previous years, the teens had attended other events.
The proceeds will benefit the mission trip, the Dream Center in Great Bend and the Ellinwood Food Bank.
