The City of Great Bend will hold a retirement reception in honor of retiring Police Chief Dean Akings. The come-and-go reception will be from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at The Front Door, 1615 10th St.
Tuesday is also the chief’s last day on the job. He has served as Great Bend’s police chief since 1983.
His wife Lily Akings was director of the Barton County Health Department from 1979 until July 25 of this year. Dean and Lily shared the title of grand marshal in this year's Home for the Holidays Parade.
