The Barton County Commission Monday morning approved a resolution postponing the discharge of fireworks in the county.
According the resolution, “the hot, dry weather pattern has created a dangerous situation wherein the danger of fires is extreme.” And, “the discharge of fireworks, as described in KAR 22-6-1, to include both Class B and C, shall be banned in the unincorporated area of Barton County.”
Any person who violates the resolution shall be guilty of a Class B misdemeanor, and, upon conviction, shall be punishable by a fine in an amount not less than $250 and not to exceed$1,000.00, or imprisonment in the County jail for a period not to exceed six months or both.
The commission will consider extending the ban on discharging fireworks from Aug. 6 to a future date.
