After months of practice and improving technique, dance competition season has arrived. Members of Euphoria Dance Center’s competition team attended Bravo Regional Dance Competition at Maize High School Feb. 28 through March 1. Members with less than two years competition experience or less than two hours of weekly studio time competed in the “overture” class. Many of these students fall into the under 14-years-old categories, though there are some late comers who have shown a great deal of dedication to their art and are ready for competition. The dances included solos, trios, and small group numbers.
EDC’s overture small group performed a teen jazz number, “Bang Bang,” that brought the studio a High Gold, 1st overall, Entertainment Award and Choreography Award. The group included Kaeli Amerine, Makezy Augustine, Rylee Ayon, Brooke Gallentine, Victoria Gonzalez, Alyssa Habash, Kylee Hallmark, Chloe Hitschmann, JoDe McCallie.
“Everyone did well yesterday and came out with a placement in the top 10 and category winners for some as well,” said EDC director Lindsey Feil after the second day of competition.
More experienced members competed in the “encore” class. These dancers have received up to four years of studio training and up to four hours of studio instruction per week. Keep in mind, even at this level, there are a fair number of dancers in the under 10-years-old category, though the majority of competitors have reached the teen or senior categories of competition.
Line dances involve a large group of dancers with complicated choreography. Most line dances for competition take months of rehearsal and fine-tuning. EDC took High Gold, 1st Overall with its junior open encore line dance, “The Huntress.” Dancers included Kaeli Amerine, Jadisyn Andrasek, Makenzy Augustine, Rylee Ayon, Emma Ayre, Cathleen Cowell, Jewelia Depperschmidt, Azha Elliott, Daehlyn Ellis, Rylie Friess, McKenna Gales, Brooke Gallentine, Victoria Gonzalez, Aubrey Habash, Alyssa Habash, Kylee Hallmark, Caitlyn Hammack, Marley Harris, Chloe Hitschmann, JoDe McCallie, Emma Nienke, Charley Sander, Kimberlyn Sinclair, Mersadie Spray, Mackenzie Spurlock, and Khloe Trudeau,
