For anyone who’s ever thought they’d like to have more of a say in local government, there’s an opening that local officials would like to get filled.
County officials are seeking applicants for an open position on the Barton County Planning Commission, and it’s open to anyone who lives in the county.
This week the Barton County Commission approved the reappointment of Rusty Carson and Richard Ahlvers.
However, County Administrator Richard Boeckman reported that board member Charles Waknitz was not seeking reappointment, which opens the door for a new member.
The county administrator noted this is a very active board and one that is currently involved in important work on county zoning issues.
According to background information from Environmental Manager Judy Goreham, “The focus of the Planning Commission is to plan for the proper growth and development of Barton County through the enactment of planning and zoning laws for the protection of the public health, safety and welfare.
“The nine-member board has uncompensated three-year positions.
“Although all applicants must reside in Barton County, the majority of members must be from the unincorporated area.”
The position that is still open can come from anywhere in Barton County, it was noted.
Anyone who is interested in applying for the open position can get forms at the Administrator’s Office in the courthouse.
