DUI arrest follows injury accident

Two people were injured when vehicles collided at 10:36 p.m. Monday on South U.S. 281, milepost 101 in Barton County. One was later arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alchol.
According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Karen R. Parsons, 55, of Goddard was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche when she made an improper turn north onto U.S. 281, entering the southbound lane. Rachel L. Carpenter, 17, of Great Bend was driving south in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Carpenter braked and swerved left in an attempt to avoid the Avalanche, but the vehicles collided in the southbound lane.
Parsons refused treatment at the scene, but was later transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries. She was arrested for DUI.
Carpenter taken to GBRH, where she was treated for minor injuries, by a private vehicle. Both women were wearing seat belts.
Great Bend Emergency Medical Service assisted. The investigation is ongoing.
