Emergency Planning Committee to meet Monday

The Barton County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Barton County Courthouse. The agenda will include discussion on Severe Weather Awareness Week 2013, Regional Mitigation Plans, and a presentation on Public Assistance at the Local Level by Steve Harsha, public assistance officer for the Kansas Division of Emergency Management.
The main function of theLEPC is to establish and maintain a Hazardous Materials Plan, conduct exercises of the plan and serve as the contact for the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Program. The committee is comprised of representatives from the following groups: elected officials; first responders; hospitals; community service/civic groups; law enforcement; health/medicine/ transportation; fire fighting; environment; communications media; and facilities/industries regulated by Community Right to Know Program.
