Fatal wreck occurs near Hoisington

HOISINGTON — Three people died when a car hit a truck near Hoisington at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

The collision happened at the K-4 and US 281 west junction.

Ronald J. Firmin, 23, Zachary, La., Zulet Rodriguez-Harp, 38, Great Bend, and Jeremy J. LeJune, 29, Zachary, La., were pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. All three were wearing seat belts.

Firmin’s car was southbound on U.S. 281 and it failed to stop for the southbound stop sign at K-4 Highway, according to information from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.

A 2006 Freightliner double axel truck driven by Steve R. Lovesee, 45, Kinsley, was eastbound on K-4 Highway.

Lovesee attempted to slow down but was unable to stop, the BCSO report explained.

The 2007 Chrysler 300, driven by Firmin, entered the intersection and struck the truck. Both vehicles entered the southeast ditch.

Thetruck rolled onto its top and the Chrysler rotated 180 degrees, coming to rest facing to the north.

Lovesee refused treatment by the Hoisington Ambulance Service, according to the BCSO report.

In addition to Hoisington Ambulance Service and the BCSO, Great Bend Ambulance and the Kansas Highway Patrol also responded to the accident
