Four people were injured after a pickup slid off a county road early on New Year’s Day, just east of Great Bend.
A spokesman at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita said David F. Velasco, 24, and Howard D. Johnson, 25, both of Great Bend, were in fair condition late Friday morning. They were both still listed in fair condition Saturday evening.
Passengers Jordan L. Haney, 21 of Great Bend, and Ryan A. Ward, 24, of Ellinwood, were also injured and were taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital.
Sheriff Brian Bellendir said the first major injury accident of the new year occurred at approximately 2:38 a.m. Thursday.
Velasco was eastbound on NE 3rd Road, driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup. He was operating the vehicle too fast for road conditions when he failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of NE 27 Ave. The pickup went off the roadway and struck a tree.
Bellendir said deputies were still investigating the accident on Friday and charges may be pending following the investigation.
