WICHITA — A Great Bend man appeared in federal court in Wichita Monday on charges of producing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

Shawn Marshal Christiansen, 36, was charged with one count of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography. The crimes are alleged to have occurred from April 27, 2009, to Jan. 8, 2010, in Great Bend.

The indictment alleges Christiansen used a Web camera to produce child pornography depicting the genitals of a 7-year-old child and distributed the image via live streaming video on Dec. 6, 2009. It also alleges he possessed sexually explicit images of minors that had been mailed and transported by computer.

If convicted, Christiansen faces a penalty of 15-30 years without parole in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge of producing child pornography, and a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the possession charge. He would also forfeit an HP Pro Web Cam and any other property used in commission of the alleged crimes.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is prosecuting, and has requested that a jury trial be held in Wichita.

Christiansen was booked into the Barton County Jail last Friday, and held with no bond until he was released to the custody of ICE on Monday.
