HOUSTON – On Sunday,  Great Bend’s Rex Rosenberg, with his “ChewBaru” art car, will compete alongside 250 pieces of mobile eye candy in the Houston Art Car Parade. There are 200,000 art car enthusiasts expected to attend.
The parade is produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, an organization that preserves and promotes visionary art environments and provides opportunities to discover and celebrate the artist in everyone.
Rosenberg’s “ChewBaru” is a 1995 Subaru Legacy that has 70 pounds of dentures, 70 pounds of dental impressions, dozens of toothpaste tubes, dental tools, toothbrushes, and many other items related to dentistry glued to it. He began adorning the car in May 2006.
The 24th-annual Houston Art Car Parade starts at 1 p.m. at Allen Parkway and Waugh. But, the Parade is just one of the many exciting events happening during Orange Show Art Car Weekend 2011:
• Art Car Ball on Friday
• Sneak Peek will take place on Saturday
• The Art Car Awards Ceremony and Brunch on Sunday. Free and open to the public, it will feature live music and entertainment, and this year’s winners will be announced with more than $10,000 in cash and prizes going to the best art car creations in 14 categories.
