Pageant champions advance Saturday

Michelle Page of Downey, Calif. was crowned Miss Golden Belt, and Bonny Boultinghouse of Great Bend, was crowned Miss Barton County Saturday night at Great Bend High School.
The first runner-up was Sarah Leatherman of Russell, and the second runner-up was Melanie Maneth, Great Bend.

Georgia Zimmerman of Great Bend was honored as the Peoples' Choice award winner.
Miss Barton County and Miss Golden Belt advance to Pratt June 7 to compete for the 2014 annual Miss Kansas Pageant at Pratt Community College. The winners earn $1,000 scholarships and amenities to the 2014 Miss Kansas Pageant. Miss Kansas Scholarship Organization has made available scholarships and in-kind funds to young women throughout the state in the past several years.
Miss Barton County and Miss Golden Belt contestants with their background and talent were Great Bend High School students Melanie Maneth, talent, piano, “Waltz Op. 69, No. 2; and Kaitlynn Tuey, talent, clarinet, “Gypsy Mood; and Tabitha Barnett, Liberal, Garden City Community College, talent, vocal, “Don’t Stop Believing,” Sarah Leatherman, Russell, Fort Hays State University, talent, vocal, “Concrete Angel,” Katie Longhofer, Wichita, Washburn University, talent, lyrical dance, “Nevermind,” Michelle Page, Downey, Calif., Kansas State University, talent, tap dance, “It’s Raining Men,” and Georgia Zimmerman, Great Bend, Barton County College, talent, dance, “Let Her Go.”
Contestants will compete in four phases of competition at the pageant, including an interview, talent competition, swimsuit wear and evening wear.
During the competition, each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform, a social or community issue of concern to herself and society at large.
Serving as judges were Donald E. Anderson II, Ellinwood, Anderson Law firm attorney; Rhianna Becker, Claflin, Central Plains High School; J. Basil Dannebohm, Ellinwood, writer, speaker and consultant; Jerry Esfeld, Great Bend, Barton County Farm Bureau coordinator; Susan Lowry, Hoisington Middle School Title I reading instructor; and Robert Suelter,  Great Bend and Claflin city attorney.
Reigning Miss Barton County Taylor Fry performed the National Anthem. Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen Kristen Boxman performed.
Kristy Hogan, co-pageant director, said she was impressed with the caliber of the 2014 contestants.
“We are very pleased with the number of intelligent, ambitious and talented young women who have entered the competition,” Hogan said.
Serving as pageant princesses were Great Bend’s Abygail Arnold, Adelis Bujanda, Devyn Ellis, Daenlyn Ellis, Ruby Hennandez, Tiesrstyn Kerschner, Sydney Mattison, Katelyn Nichols, Analeah Ochs, Natalia Ordonez, Maycee Parr, Jayden Roach, Rylee Schnoebelen; Hoisington’s Brooke Gallentine and Khloe Schneweis and Olmitz’s Katie Kuhlman.
Special assistance was provided by Kristy Hogan and Candice Moeder, co-directors; Gwen McDonald and Christina Hayes, pageant committee members; Scott Donovan and Mark Mingenback, announcers; Ryan Will, stage crew; Candace Tomlin and Leslie Francis, princess coordinators;  Lindsay Feil, Euphoria Dance, dance choreography; Alan Baxter, Brian Ewing, Encore Sound, sound and lights; Ana Hayson, Rana Luna Boutique, Princess Tiara sponsor.
