Students at Holy Family School in Great Bend will present their annual Christmas program at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Barton Community College Campus. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Principal Karen Moeder said moving the annual program to the auditorium will ensure ample seating. “We were running out of room at the Parish Center,” she said. In addition to friends and family members who attend the show, Holy Family School needed seating for 180 of its 230 students, as grades K through 6 take part in the program.
The renovated auditorium was unveiled earlier this year.
“It’s a beautiful facility,” Moeder said. “Every seat is a good seat.”
Music instructor JoAnn Suchy is in coordinating the program, with assistance from Megan Murphy and Shannon Somers.
The program will follow begin with each class, from kindergarten through fourth grade, performing two songs. Moeder said there will be a mix of religious and secular music.
Students in fifth and sixth grade will present this year’s musical, “The Christmas County Spelling Bee.”
“It’s all about the different names of Jesus,” Suchy said. Some of the names mentioned in Isaiah 9:6 include “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty God,” and “Immanuel” or is it “Emmanuel”? The spelling bee will explain the answer. There’s a song for each name, as the children and the audience come to a deeper understanding of the Nativity story.
