Kansas Honor Flight Inc. will escort 26 World War II veterans on an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Mike VanCampen, president of the nonprofit organization based in Hutchinson, said flights will leave Wednesday from Wichita and Kansas City, and return on Friday.
“The veterans will have the opportunity to visit not only the memorials erected to honor their service to our country, but many other sites including Arlington National Cemetery,” he said. “Even though many government activities are currently shut down, these aging veterans are given special consideration.
“The financial support of a grateful public enables these men and women to experience this memorable trip. During the past year, Kansas Honor Flight has been able to escort over 250 of these men and women to our nation’s capitol. In the near future, efforts will be focused on identifying and escorting our Korean veterans followed by our Vietnam veterans.”
VanCampen will be the leader for the flight this week. Guardians who join the trip to insure safe travel of the veterans will pay their own expenses.
Family and friends of veterans as well as the veterans are encouraged to contact Kansas Honor Flight at 620-546-2400 or visit the website at www.kansashonorflight.org for more information. Tax deductible contributions may be sent to Kansas Honor Flight, P.O. Box 2371, Hutchinson, KS 67504.
