Larned man indicted for mail theft

TOPEKA, Kan. – A 30-year-old Larned man has been charged with one count of stealing cash and gift cards from the mail while he was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Wednesday.
Stephen T. Mead was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury meeting in Topeka
The crime is alleged to have occurred from November 2010 to January 2011 in Saline County.
If convicted, Mead faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. The U.S. Postal Service investigated. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Duston Slinkard is prosecuting.
In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
