Barton County staff and administration announced that Amy Mellor, assistant Barton County attorney, was appointed to the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training by Governor Sam Brownback.
According to information from CPOST, the commission “is committed to providing the citizens of Kansas with qualified, trained, ethical, competent, and professional peace officers. It is also dedicated to adopting and enforcing professional standards for certification of peace officers to promote public safety and preserve public trust and confidence.”
There are 12 members on the commission, with the governor appointing 10. The commission is made up of law enforcement officers, sheriffs, chiefs of police, a county or district attorney, and a member of the general public. All members serve a four-year term.
