Residential street work is about to kick into high gear around Great Bend and City Engineer Robert Winiecke wants to make sure local residents are aware that the work is coming.
Winiecke noted the paving improvements are set to start at the beginning of next week.
“Beginning on or around Monday, Oct. 17, Venture Corporation will begin the full-depth removal and replacement portion of the 2011 Residential Street Project for the city.”
The city engineer provided the following list of projects and he noted these are streets that “will be completely removed and replaced.”
Winiecke also noted this list is in the order the work is expected to be done.
It includes:
Streets that are identified in the list below in order of progression:
• Van Buren Street — 12th Street to Lakin Avenue
• Jackson Street — Forest to Broadway Avenues
• 18th Street — Jackson & Madison Streets
• Adam Street — 17th to 18th Streets
• One Half of Telestar and Whitesands streets (west of Veterans Memorial Park)
• Cheyenne and Walnut Drives — Between Odell and Pawnee Road; and Pawnee Road — from 21st and Morton to the midblock between Cheyenne and Zarah drives
• Odell Street — 16th to 19th streets and Morphy Street — 17th to 19th streets
• The second half of Telestar and Whitesands streets (west of Veterans Memorial Park)
The city engineer explained these will involve significant construction. “Construction activities for this portion of the work will include removal of the existing pavements (full depth) by milling, the placement of flyash to treat the existing roadway subgrades, and the placement of new asphalt concrete roadway surfacing.
“Residents can expect to see heavy construction machinery, localized road closures and periods of blowing dust (primarily during the subgrade treatment process).
“Any questions regarding this roadwork should be directed to the City Engineering Department at 793-4111.”
