As part of Operation Lifesaver, officers from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Barton County Sheriffs Office and Great Bend Police Department held a positive enforcement checkpoint Wednesday morning and afternoon at the railroad crossing on South Main in Great Bend. Motorists were given a pamphlet on railroad crossing safety and a coupon for a medium cherry limeade from Sonic. Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public awareness program dedicated to ending collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and on railroad property. - photo by DALE HOGG Great Bend Tribune
