Paradise woman taken to hospital after I-70 collision

RUSSELL COUNTY — Kansas Highway Patrol reports two vehicles collided at 11:34 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 70, approximately 5 miles west of Russell.
A 2000 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Nancy Jo Welling, 78, of Paradise was westbound in the right-hand lane and a 2013 Peterbilt semitrailer driven by Charles M. Gatz, 53, of Marquette was westbound in the left-hand lane, passing. The car moved into the left lane and rubbed against the tires of the trailer. Welling lost control of the car, which went into the north ditch and hit the fence. She steered back into the roadway and stopped on the shoulder.
Welling was taken to Russell Regional Hospital with possible injury. Gatz was not injured Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
