The Barton County Historical Society Museum and Village held its annual Pioneer Day on Wednesday.

Volunteers, some in period costume, help show third graders some local history and how life used to be on the Great  Plains. This year, everyone was happy not to be rained out.

The museum is located at 85 South U.S. 281, just south of the Arkansas River bridge in Great Bend. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is closed on Mondays.

There are serveral historic buildings in the village, such as the  Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad depot from Belpre. A description of the buildings can be found at the Barton County Historical Society website: http://www.bartoncountymuseum.org/buildings.html
