During routine dive training, the Great Bend Fire Department located two vehicles under water near the south boat ramp at Stone Lake.  Both may have been reported stolen as far back as 2011, based off license tags.
According to fire chief Mike Napolitano, during the first dive of the morning, a white Ford F250 pick up truck with extended cab was found.  Great Bend Police were called, and a flatbed tow truck from Dove GM of Great Bend was brought to the scene.  While hooking the towing cable to the submersed vehicle, divers found the second truck.  No bodies were found in either vehicle.
The fire department rotates dive training at several lakes in Great Bend, although Veteran’s Park lake is not currently on the list due to the presence of blue green algae, Napolitano said.
