Children can experience the fun of Santa’s Workshop, from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium.
This free holiday event is designed for children from preschool age through sixth grade, their families and all who are young at heart, said Garet Fitzpatrick at the Great Bend Recreation Commission.
The public is asked to enter the auditorium through the doors on the southwest corner of the auditorium.
A mini Santa’s Workshop, which is less intense, is offered for preschoolers in the Great Bend Recreation Center’s Burnside Room. For this event, enter through the northeast door on Stone St.
Great Bend High School students, community volunteers and the Great Bend Recreation Commission staff are working with Santa’s elves and will transform the auditorium into a magical realm for the 18th annual Santa’s Workshop. Children can go to any or all of the fun booths for food, craft activities and treats. Free popcorn, candy, prizes and balloons will await everyone.
Santa Claus will be there, hearing children’s wish lists and posing for photos.
The Middle School Jazz Band and El Sol Mexican Folk Dancers will perform during the evening.
Students from the Great Bend High School Presidents Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, World Language Club, DECA, Kays, Kayettes, FBLA, FFA, FEA, Pep Club, Theatre Club, Art Club and representatives from each GBHS class will help GBRC staff with this event, along with the Barton Community College Sports Medicine staff.
The Parents As Teachers, Parent Teacher Resource Center - PTRC, Sunflower Early Education Center and Great Bend Public Library Children’s Department will provide the mini Santa’s Workshop for preschoolers.
More than two dozen businesses have also provided donations.
