Authorities seized 6 pounds of “very high quality marijuana” and more than $16,000 in cash when they raided a Great Bend residence Wednesday morning, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. One suspect was arrested.
Barton County Sheriff’s officers and agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at 1019 Jefferson St. around 9:20 a.m.
“Sheriff’s detectives had obtained information that substantial quantities of controlled substances were being sold from this residence,” Bellendir stated in a news release. “The drugs, cash, two vehicles and other personal property were seized as evidence and will be processed under the Kansas Drug Forfeiture Act. Sheriff’s deputies also recovered a stolen handgun that was stolen in the city of Great Bend. Another firearm was also discovered at the location.”
Great Bend resident Tyson E. Sanders, 32, was arrested at the scene. He was booked into the Barton County Jail on charges of possession of drugs with intent to distribute, possession of stolen property and other drug charges, including sales of controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school. He remained in jail Thursday in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
Bellendir said the BCSO is actively pursuing drug and narcotic related cases. “The latest arrest is part of our continuing effort to curtail the trafficking of controlled substances in Barton County.”
