The Great Bend Police Department has released the names of the three people shot Wednesday night in Great Bend.  All of the victims were transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital by Great Bend Emergency Medical Services.
According to Great Bend police, Hope Huslig, 23, of Great Bend was later flown to Wichita Wesley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Larry Norman, 30, Great Bend, who is dating Huslig, and Saedra Walters, 20, Larned, were treated and released from GBRH.
The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. Wednesday at 1411 ½ 2nd Street.
Police Chief Dean Aikings said it appears that all three were injured as the result of a shotgun blast from a suspect or suspects who remain at large.
The victims, who do not live at the house, were inside when the shooter or shooters knocked on the door and attempted to enter, Akings said. (It was not clear who is living in the house. The landlord is in Colorado and could not be contacted immediately.) The door opened and someone shot into the house. Shotgun pellets hit Walters in the leg and Norman in the chest. Huslig’s wounds were to her chest and left shoulder, and the attending physician chose to transfer her to Wichita because of possible muscle damage, Akings said.
“We obtained a search warrant (Wednesday) night and did a search warrant at that residence,” he said. The Great Bend Police Department, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Barton County Sheriff’s Office continued their joint investigation Thursday.
“We really don’t have a motive at this point in time, but we really don’t think this was a random crime – it was targeted,” the chief said. Police believe the victims knew their attacker, but they were not cooperating with officers.
