As Dorothy Gale learned by the end of the 1939 motion picture classic, “The Wizard of Oz,” there’s no place like home.
And county officials learned the same thing when they traveled, not to Emerald City, but to Topeka last week for the annual Kansas Association of Counties meeting.
County Commissioner Homer Kruckenberg observed there’s nothing like getting together with other county officials to realize how many things are being done correctly here at home.
Kruckenberg noted that, “we’re pretty fortunate to have a county counselor and finance officer.”
He also was impressed with the county officials, including County Administrator Richard Boeckman, who were part of the statewide presentations.
“Barton County was well represented,” Kruckenberg said.

For Commissioner Don Cates this was a first time trip to the KAC and he was impressed with the leadership training. He added it’s great to get ideas from other counties. “We don’t have to reinvent the wheel,” he commented.
Also this week, the commissioners recognized Wendy Prosser who has recently become a registered mass appraiser.
County Appraiser Barbara Konrade noted this has been a four-year commitment and it is an important step for her department and its ability to efficiently and accurately serve the county.
