Kristy Straub of Great Bend is one of 26 Kansas women selected to participate in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series.
Each year, outstanding Republican women throughout Kansas have the opportunity to learn more about the political process from leaders across the state, national Republican Party officials and elected Republicans serving in our nation’s Capitol.
Straub, with Straub International, was nominated by Great Bend Chamber & Economic Development Director Jan Peters. She then submitted an application and was interviewed. “Many of the top women in the state were selected to be a part of the group,” Straub said. “I feel very honored to be a part of this.”
At present, Straub is chairman of the Barton County Young Professionals and serves on the Family Crisis Center board. She is founder and co-director of the first-ever Miss Barton County/Miss Golden Belt Scholarship Pageant, a Miss Kansas local qualifying competition to be held on March 9, 2013.
Straub graduated from the University of Kansas in 2003, and then Friends University in 2010 with an MBA. She is married to Toby Hogan of Great Bend and they have a 2 year old daughter Baze.
The Dwight D. Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series is part of the nationwide Excellence in Public Service Series developed by U.S. Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana. Kansas is one of 19 states to establish the series. Each state names its series in honor of a national Republican leader who hails from the state. The mission is to encourage, inspire, educate and prepare selected women leaders to seek new levels of involvement in government and politics.
The goal is to change the face of the Republican Party by expanding the number of Kansas Republican women who serve in elected office, on boards and commissions, and hold key positions on campaign, political and government staffs.
Participants were selected by a distinct group of women, Straub said, that includes Mary Brownback, wife of Gov. Sam Brownback; June Cooper, former Kansas Republican National Committeewoman; Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (Emeritus); Barbara Lawrence former Kansas State Senator; Jan Meyers former Congresswoman; Robba Moran (Emeritus), wife of U.S. Senator Jerry Moran; Susan Pompeo, wife of Congressman Mike Pompeo; Sandy Praeger (Emeritus), Insurance Commissioner for the State of Kansas; Franki Roberts, wife of U.S. Senator Pat Roberts; Anne Ryun, wife of former Congressman Jim Ryun; Alicia Salisbury (Emeritus), former National Republican Committeewoman and former Kansas State Senator; Vicki Tiahrt, wife of former Congressman Todd Tiahrt; and Brooke Robinson Yoder, wife of Congressman Kevin Yoder.
