Work on several Great Bend residential streets is slated to begin Monday and Great Bend City Engineer Rob Winiecke wants residents to be aware of where crews will be and when.
The 2013 Great Bend residential street resurfacing and reconstruction work involves 12 blocks of mill and overlay and two blocks of full-depth reconstruction. The work is being done by Venture Corporation of Great Bend.
Venture anticipates beginning with the full depth reconstruction of Bonita Avenue. This should start Monday.
Following the removal of existing pavement along Bonita, the subgrade will be treated with flyash and allowed to cure.
After that, the placement of new pavement will begin.
Toward the latter half of next week, Venture also expects to start the milling portion of the project starting at 26th Street between Quivira and Morton and continuing to the southwest.
Following this, Venture will perform the 2013 Lakin Avenue Improvements project, in which a thin asphalt concrete surface will be applied between K-96 and McKinley Street.
Winiecke said motorists can expect to see localized street closures, barricades, construction crews and heavy machinery in/around the areas of work. Residents should watch for door hangers to be distributed in their area for further direction.
“Everyone’s cooperation is greatly appreciated as the city undertakes these improvement projects to enhance the mobility of our community,” he said. Questions about these specific projects can be directed to the city’s Engineering Department, 620-793-4111.
