HOISINGTON – A Hoisington man is in custody after his Tuesday morning suicide attempt led authorities to a Hoisington residence where drugs and drug-related items were found, a news release from the Hoisington Police Department said.
At about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, HPD officers were dispatched to 410 East 3rd St. in reference to a male subject who allegedly stabbed himself in the chest in attempt to commit suicide, the release said. Upon arrival officers made contact with Orlin Akins, 21, who had a single self-inflicted stab wound to the chest after a domestic violence incident with his live-in girlfriend.
He was treated at the scene by Hoisington Emergency Medical Services and later transported to Clara Barton Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According to the HPD statement, during the initial investigation on the scene, officers observed drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the residence. As a result the HPD obtained and executed a narcotics-related search warrant at the residence where drugs and drug paraphernalia were seized.
Akins later, while at the hospital, attempted to escape by running from officers while still inside the emergency room. He was apprehended a short time later still inside the hospital.
He was later transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked and confined in lieu of bond. His charges are as follows: Battery domestic violence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction, escape from custody, two (2) counts of battery on a law enforcement officer.
